Dynamic Analysis
Eigenvalue, floor response spectrum, and time-history analyses to quantify resonance risk and reduce responses.
Overview
EFAN evaluates structural dynamics and seismic performance for fusion, accelerator, and nuclear systems. We identify modal characteristics via eigenvalue analysis, assess design indices with floor response spectra, and capture transient behavior using time-history simulations.
Analysis Methods & Tools
- Eigenvalue Analysis: natural frequencies, mode shapes, modal effective mass
- Floor Response Spectrum (FRS): acceleration/velocity/displacement spectra and design checks
- Time-History Analysis: responses to earthquake records or arbitrary excitation (with damping modeling)
- Software: ANSYS Mechanical / Workbench
Required Information
- 3D CAD models (STEP, etc.), mass properties (density, added mass)
- Constraints/supports/contact definitions, damping settings (Rayleigh/modal)
- Inputs: floor response spectra (for design) and/or time-history records (acceleration series & sampling info)
- Acceptance criteria: resonance avoidance, allowable displacement/stress, safety margins/clearances
- Validation data (optional): test results or past analyses for correlation
Deliverables
- Mode summary (natural frequencies, mode shapes, modal effective mass ratios)
- Responses under floor spectra (peak acceleration, displacement, stress, etc.)
- Time-history peaks and traces, dominant modes and phase insights
- Assessment report (assumptions, modeling, validation, recommendations)
